Frequently Asked Questions

about Ceramic Hobs

IMPORTANT: Do not leave empty cookware on a hot surface cooking area, element or surface burner.

My hob won't come on
Check the following:
That the power is switched on (is there a power cut?)
That the controls are switched on
Check the fuse in the plug and the mains fuse.
Is the safety lock function (key symbol) on?
Why does my ceramic hob turn itself on and off during cooking?
This is a normal process to avoid overheating. Each cooking zone has a sensor which allows the zone to pulse during the cooking process.
There is a key symbol on my ceramic hob, what is it for?
The key is a safety device to avoid any accidental use, and the appliance can be locked to prevent unintentional operation by pressing the lock key. This also serves as a child safety function. If the lock function is not deactivated before the appliance is switched off, it will still be active when the appliance is next switched on. While the lock function is active, operating the keys will have no affect. To activate and deactivate this function please consult your user manual.
What type of saucepans should I use on a ceramic glass hob?
The pans must have flat and preferably thick base the same size as the cooking zone being used. This will give good conduction of heat. If you are unsure that your pans are suitable, please contact the manufacturer of the pans for clarification.
Cookware guide

Aluminium

Heats quickly and evenly.
Suitable for all types of cooking.
Medium or heavy thickness is best for most cooking tasks.
Aluminium bottom pans can leave metal residue on the hob surface which normally appears as streaks. These can be cleaned using a hob cleaner

Cast Iron

Heats slowly and evenly.
Good for browning and frying.
Maintains heat for slow cooking
Not recommended because they may scratch the Ceran surface.

Copper

Heats very quickly and evenly
Can leave marks on the cooktop

Stainless steel

Heats quickly, but unevenly
Are preferred for ceramic hobs as they should not streak or stain the surface

How can I clean my ceramic hob?
Ceramic hobs should be cleaned and spills wiped up after use with a damp cloth while still warm. If this is not done, the spills will become baked on to the surface. Cleaning should be carried out using a clean damp soapy cloth, but there are specialist cleaning products available for difficult marks.
To remove stubborn stains or food deposits use a glass scraper. These can also be used in order to get rid of easily-removable dirt deposits when the cooking plates are still warm. Remember that the blade should be sharp and replace worn blades. Do not run the blade along the edge of the cooking hob.
Do not use abrasive or scouring detergents/powders, scouring pads or steel wool as they will damage the control panel.
